Congratulations, you've been named the lead for a Critical Sectors Grant! We know it can feel overwhelming, so here's a checklist that will help you get started and point you to key resources. Remember, your Federal Project Officer (FPO) is your main point of contact. The Program Office can help with performance reporting and technical assistance. We are all here to help you succeed!
Get Connected
☐If you haven't met, schedule a meeting with your FPO.
☐Email the Program Office to let us know who should be listed as the project manager/director so that you receive essential information.
☐Become a WorkforceGPS member and scribe to the Critical Sectors Community to access the latest.
Get Familiar with Your Project
☐Review:
- the Critical Sectors Job Quality FOA and Amendment 1
- foundational resources
- Grantee Orientation webinar
☐Examine your approved grant agreement and note any actions and deadlines related to Special Conditions of Award, funding restrictions, and administrative requirements.
☐Examine your project's existing partner agreements and assess whether additional partners or agreements are needed to meet your goals.
☐Create or update your project plan, incorporate reporting deadlines, and (re)assess your program's progress in meeting objectives and outcomes.

☐Check out the Office of Grants Management
☐Check out the Resource Index in the Grants Application and Management Community and share the SMART 4.0 Grants Management Training with relevant members.
☐Prepare for monitoring by:
- developing or updating your policies, procedures, and guides for overseeing sub-recipients and
- reviewing the Core Monitoring Guide.
Cultivate Your Partnerships & Teams
☐Establish new or continued regular meetings for all key partners and staff involved in grant implementation.
☐Evaluate your partnerships' strengths and opportunities for growth using the Assessing Partnership Performance toolkit.
☐Envision how partnerships with service providers can be maximized, leveraged, and sustained via the Partnership Assessment Tool.
☐See the Aspen Institute's Reimagining Employer Engagement Toolkit, which illustrates the progression of engagement between a business or employer and a workforce organization.
☐Review the Employer Engagement Resource Guide for partnership tips.
☐View the Working with the Public Workforce System webinar to ensure a strong bond with your required public workforce development system partner.

Design & Expand Existing Career Pathways

Plan for Sustainability
☐Survey examples of sustainability planning resources.
Get Ready for Financial Reporting
☐Prepare to report financial information on the 15th day of the second month after each quarter.
