Incorporating the Worker Voice within the Sector Strategy Framework
About
Strategic change is difficult to achieve. It takes all of us (job seekers, case managers, employers, and workforce partners), collaborating and aligning our resources to make our workforce ecosystem thrive. Now more than ever, it’s important to listen and educate job seekers and workers on their rights, empowering them to advocate for their needs and better quality of life, while at the same time promoting a widespread workforce system shift.
The Next Level Now (NLN) Collaborative has taken up the charge and is currently providing customized technical assistance (TA) with multiple states on the importance of incorporating the “worker voice” into their sector strategy framework. Based on a recent pre-evaluation conducted with a certain state, there is a disparity regarding where the local workforce areas see the need for improvement within Sector Strategies as opposed to the leadership at the state level. In this situation, it's NLN's mission to fill in the knowledge gaps and steer a framework creation that benefits everyone! Below you will find the universal resources and tools that NLN provides states on this crucial topic.

Sector Strategy Framework:
While following the Sector Strategy framework is important, the workforce system needs to ensure that the “worker voice” is embedded throughout the process. Examples include: regular “pulse” surveys for feedback; training on workplace practices and flagging when not followed, scheduled one-on-one meetings with line managers for two-way feedback; open office hours for key decision makers; and open forums.
